Weekly Charters:
January 1st to January 22nd, 2024
With this year consistently staying cold for a whole month, the fishing has been tough. Winter fishing charters really test your patience as a Captain. They make you feel like you don’t know what you are doing at times. The fish can be in one spot for a week strait and then the very next day they are gone just like that. You have to hunt for them twice as hard as you would in the spring, summer and fall. Fishing can be the most relaxing thing in the world and also the most stressful. When you are on the water 4 to 5 times a week you have expectations, you know what should be happening, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. We have been catching fish every charter that’s not a problem, but finding the slot fish and big daddy’s has slowed down. We are really having to hunt them down. Honest Captains are the best ones in my opinion, fishing has been tough. We need the warmer weather to come back.
Lady fish have been super steady and Spotted Sea trout are a everyday bite. Sheephead are under the bridges and back in the bayou. I have never caught as many pompano has I have this year and they are nice size as well. We are catching a lot of smaller reds, which is great to see for future fishing. Big Reds are still out there and the crazy thing is every over slot we caught this month has been between 10:15 am and 10:30 am. Literally every red has been caught within those 15 minutes. Only one Snook has made an appearance in three weeks.
The new boat is running great and now that I have it set up the way I like for fishing. I am going to start taking her out on the gulf and teach myself how to near shore fish. Its a LIVINKINDOFLIFESTYLE, stick to it haha.
